Sri Subir Ray is a distinguished sports personality, accomplished adventure enthusiast, and dedicated organizer who serves as the Vice President and Camp Commandant of Burnpur Panthers. With a lifelong association with athletics, adventure activities, sports administration, and cultural engagement, he brings exceptional experience, discipline, and leadership to the organization.
Professionally, Sri Ray is associated with Indian Railways, where he serves as a Chief Travelling Ticket Inspector (CTTI). Alongside his professional responsibilities, he has built a remarkable identity as an eminent sportsman and mentor within the Asansol Sub-Division and beyond.
Sri Ray has represented at the National level on several occasions and has consistently distinguished himself in the field of athletics. He had the honour of serving twice as Captain of Eastern Railway in the All India Railway Athletic Championship in 1995 and 1996, a testament to his leadership and sporting excellence. He has also participated multiple times in the National Masters Athletics Championships, organized by the Masters Athletics Federation of India, and has earned recognition as a medal holder in Masters-level competitions.
His achievements extend to the international arena as well. Sri Ray secured seven medals at the International Invitation Masters’ Games held across 2023, 2024, and 2025. He also participated in the prestigious 23rd Asian Masters Athletics Championship 2025, held at Nehru Stadium, Chennai, where athletes from 23 Asian countries took part under the aegis of the Masters Athletics Federation of India. In addition, he participated in the National Masters’ Games 2024 at Goa, further strengthening his profile as a seasoned masters athlete.
An ardent lover of adventure sports, Sri Subir Ray has successfully completed the Sandakphu Trek (approximately 12,000 ft.) and has participated in various high-altitude trekking and adventure activities. His passion for outdoor training, physical endurance, and disciplined adventure practice aligns deeply with the mission of Burnpur Panthers, where he serves as Camp Commandant, guiding and supporting the organization’s camps, field activities, and adventure training initiatives.
Beyond athletics and adventure, Sri Ray is actively involved in sports administration and community-based sporting initiatives. He serves as Vice President of Asansol Sports Official and has also worked as the Convener of the B.G. Ray Memorial, an initiative associated with Veteran Football Tournaments and Sports Quiz programmes, reflecting his commitment to preserving sporting culture and community participation.
Sri Ray is also a respected figure in the field of theatre and cultural performance. He is associated with the 63-year-old theatre organization “Dishari”, Burnpur, where he serves as Secretary. Over the years, he has performed in several full-length Bengali dramas, one-act plays, safety dramas, and street theatre productions, reflecting his multidimensional contribution to society through both sports and culture. His creative involvement extends to telefilms, music video projects, and Bengali cinema, including participation in the Bengali Tollywood film “Kapal”.
In recognition of his contributions across sports, adventure activities, theatre, quiz, and social work, Sri Ray has been felicitated by various organizations and has received 13 awards and recognitions during his service period. He also participated in the Mumbai Marathon 2025 and undertook a notable 30-kilometre memorial marathon run in honour of his father, B.G. Ray, from Chittaranjan Oval Stadium to Asansol Polo Stadium on 5 January 2025, in the presence of eminent sports personalities of the Asansol Sub-Division.
Through his leadership, sporting achievements, cultural engagement, and commitment to adventure training, Sri Subir Ray remains one of the key pillars of Burnpur Panthers, inspiring younger generations through discipline, endurance, service, and active community involvement.
